About the event

Karen Anderson and Mike Carpenter will lead this spring bird migration trip to western Ohio's Lake Erie shore, May 8 to May 12, 2024. The area is called the “Warbler Capital of the World.” This the same week as The Biggest Week in American Birding Festival when large number of birders come to Ohio. While there may be crowds, this also means there are a lot of eyes finding birds and it is unlikely we will miss any species.  We will primarily visit six sites: the famous Magee Marsh boardwalk at Crane Creek State Park, Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge, Metzgers Marsh Wildlife Area, Howard Marsh and Person Metro Parks, and Maumee Bay State Park.  In addition, there are more than 20 other birding sites nearby, and if a special bird species shows up, we may try to see it as well.

This trip is informal in that we will not be arranging transportation nor lodging. May 8 and 12 are mostly travel days, with an orientation dinner at 7pm on Wednesday, May 8 at the Oregon Inn, Oregon, Ohio. For accommodations, there are seven hotels in Oregon and Northwood. If you prefer to fly, Toledo, Ohio is 20 miles west of this area.
